ウクレレフェスティバル Uke Fes

週末、フロリダで行われたウクレレフェスティバルに参加し、パフォーマンスとフラワークショップのお手伝いをしてきました。

Mana attended at S. Florida Ukulele Festival this weekend, and performed hula and joined hula workshops.



彼が友人のTy、このイベントの主催者です。



He held this festival, and is awesome musician.




そして夜のコンサートでは大好きなクムと二人で踊ってきました。
久しぶりにあった友人達、今回出会ったミュージシャン達、みんなたくさんのBig hug と Aloha をくれました。こんな素敵なつながりを私も作っていきたいと思います。

At the night concert, I performed hula with kumu.
Everybody gave me big hug and Aloha !  I want to make such a lovely connection with my people.

キット作り pretreatment

キットを制作するときにとても大切な行程の一つが布の地直しです。
濡らした布にアイロンを掛け布目を整えると、まっすぐカットされていた布がこんなに歪んでいました。このアイロン掛けの作業にはしっかり時間をかけて行い、
そして布は必要なヤードより多めに買う必要があります。

Ironing is very important progression for making kit, because a distortion of cloth appeared after ironing. I take a time for ironing, and buy extra fabric.

赤ちゃん布団の方もかなりハイペースで進んでいます。

そしてバッグのパターンのご依頼もいただきましたが
そちらは、ちょっと考えます。。。。。

I got the request of the pattern of the bag.
I try to think for a while.........

力不足でした。 inadequacy

まだまだ、勉強不足、力不足。。。
生徒さんが望んでいるものをそのまま提供する事は決して最善ではありません。
自分が持っている技術やノウハウを参考意見として、きちんとしたアドバイスをして行くそれが私の役目だという事を改めて心に刻みました。
希望と実際に製作できる限界をどこで折り合いをつけるか。。。。難しいですね。
とりあえず今日前進して良かったです。

Lack of study, inadequacy more. . .
It is not best at all to just give the pattern which a student hopes for.
Mana has to give them sound advice, it's the most important thing.
The hope that they want to make, they can make it practically,........not same.
The compromise is not easy....anyway, it was good to advance today.

バッグのデザイン honu for bag

バッグはハワイアンキルトで作りたい物のトップ３に入るのではないかと思います。

Bag may be in top 3 of Hawaiian quilt wanting to make.



今回は小さめのバッグをホヌ（カメ）のデザインでご依頼いただいたので
何パターンか考えました。

I got a request of Honu (turtle) design for small bag.




ブルーの同系色、ハイビスカスと合わせたデザインを選ばれました。
出来上がりが楽しみです。

Blue is the nice color suggestive of ocean.
I look forward to the finish.

パターン作成 making pattern

キットのご依頼をいただくと、イメージを具体化してパターンを作り、まず紙を切ってお見せします。その後色々ご希望を伺って変更し作り替えて行きます。
時には１０パターンではきかないほど作り替える事もあります。

When I got a request of a kit, I show a student miniature paper pattern.
After that, I remake the pattern many times with her request.




OKをいただくと実際のサイズにパターンをおこします。
よく拡大コピーをするのですか？と聞かれますが、私はもう一度大きな紙にデッサンをして行きます。原寸大のサイズで、どのようにキルトラインルトがはいるかなどを考慮しながら調整して行くためです。

I got a go sign, and make an actual size pattern.
I'm asked often "Do you make enlargement?"......answer is No.
I draw it on a big paper again while considering about quilting line.

作り直します。 make over

先日ご紹介したテリアのパターン
どうしてもわんちゃんの形が納得できないというご相談をいただき、別のデッサンをもとに作り直す事になりました。

As previously mentioned, I prepared the kit of terrier dog pattern.
However, she was not satisfied with it after doing appliqué, and wanted me to remake the kit from different sketch.



絵のイメージと陰影のない布地のアップリケのギャップをどこまで受け入れていただくか。。。。今回はどうでしょう？

She was not able to accept the difference between sketch and fabric pattern without shadow.
I hope she likes new one.

講師紹介 instructor's unexpected side

Hawaiian Quilt ANELAの講師は、ハワイアンキルトと生活をして２０年以上
ハワイアンキルトがライフワークなのですが。。。。

The instructor of Hawaiian Quilt ANELA is MANA.
Mana lives with Hawaiian quilt more than 20 years, and seems to be devoted only quilt.
However, there are unexpected sides......



実は、香港では太極拳の６種目の資格を取得。各競技会に個人、団体で出場しメダルを獲得しています。香港政府公認機関の代表選手（当時唯一の日本人）として、運動推進イベントなど各地に赴き表演活動を続けていました。香港と日本でインストラクターをし太極拳の普及にも努めました。

Mana learnt Tai-chi in Hong Kong and mastered six qualifications, entered a lot of competitions, got medals. As the only Japanese representative of the Hong Kong government official organization, and played Tai-chi in various locations for the exercise promotion events.
Mana also has experience of instructor in Hong Kong and Japan.




また、フロリダではFlorida Hawaii Civic Association所属のグループでリーダーダンサーとして多くのショーに出演。オーランドのHo'ike Hawai'i のコンサートやディズニーリゾートのHo'olauleaにも参加。また 定期的に地元の各小学校のアフタースクールに赴き、子供達にフラの楽しさを紹介していました。

Mana performed as a leader Hula dancer of the group which belongs to Florida Hawaii Civic Association, made a performance at many shows and introduced hula to children at local elementary schools, in Florida.




このような経験をこれからもANELAにいかしていきたいと思っています。

Mana want to make use of these experiences for ANELA from now on.

穏やかな春らしいお天気の今日、お教室も色とりどりで華やかです。

It's Spring!! very colorful in the class.

今日からまたお一人仲間が増えます。久しぶりの寒色系です。
