夏にハワイに遊びにいらしたYさん、その時お渡ししたレフアパターンのキットが完成しました、とご連絡くださいました！！

レフアのウネウネをどこまで生かしてウェーブキルトを描くか。。。センスが問われるところですが、とてもいい感じに仕上がっています💕　はなまる〜〜〜〜🌺

この色、クリスマスシーズンにピッタリ🎄、お正月にも🎍、そしてバレンタインデーにも💘とずーっと使っていただけそうです❣️

「完成は嬉しけれど、終わっちゃって寂しい〜」なんとも嬉しいお言葉です！

来年もまた遊びにきてくださるのをお待ちしていま〜す‼️

Today's quilt is this table runner!

Ms. Y, who came to Hawaii to visit me over the summer, informed me that she has finished the lehua pattern kit that I gave her at that time!

How much of the undulation of the lehua should be utilized to quilt the wave line? It's a test of taste, but it turned out very well 💕 great job〜〜〜〜🌺

This color is perfect for Christmas 🎄, New Year's 🎍, and Valentine's Day 💘 and will be used all the time❣️.

She said "I'm so glad it's done, but I'm sad it's over."

What a lovely words 💕

I am looking forward to seeing you again next year!

ヤシの木が揺れる島から🏝

 いよいよクリスマスまで１週間

街の中はどこもクリスマスのデコレーションで溢れています。

毎年恒例のホノルルシティライツ🎄🎅前で昨年レッスン動画で紹介したMele Kalikimakaを踊ってきました。

やっぱりクリスマスソングは心がウキウキしますね🎶

撮影していたら近くにいたセキュリティーのおじさんにGood 👍と声をかけてもらいました😅

この日を境に、ハワイ全島ストームで雨が続いています。昨年も年末年始雨ばかりだったので今年は晴天のお正月を迎えられたらな〜☀️

One week to Christmas at last!

Everywhere in town is filled with Christmas decorations.

I danced Mele Kalikimaka, which I introduced in my lesson video last year, in front of the annual Honolulu City Lights 🎄🎅.

I was actually a little tired after volunteering at Iolani Palace for 3 hours, but the Christmas song still made my heart sing 🎶.

When I was taking videos, a security guy nearby said Good👍😅.

After this day, the state of Hawaii becomes stormy and it is raining whole days. Last year it rained around New Year's, so I hope we have a sunny New Year's in 2023 ☀️.

アフプアア

アフプアアという言葉を聞いたことがありますか？

ハワイの土地区分はカウアイ、オアフ、マウイ、ハワイ島等大きな島をモクプニ(Mokupuni)と呼び、モクプニの一部分や小さな島をモク(Moku)と呼びます。島を峰に沿って谷ごとに区画したのがアフプアア(Ahupua'a)と呼ばれる地域です。

アフプアは、資源と人々の分配を組織化するためにアリイ(Ali'i)によって作られました。アフプアは伝統的に山から海岸近くまであり、アフプアに住む人々が生活するために必要なものがすべて揃っていました。住民は皆、資源を大切にし、アフプアアの頭であるコノヒキと島の長をサポートするためにクレアナ（責任）を負っていました。このシステムは大変効率が良く15-16世紀頃には、島の人口は繁栄し、その頃のオアフ島の人口は、現在の人口に匹敵するほどだったと推測されています。

このシンボルには豚の頭が使われていますが、当時、豚の頭はククイ木で彫られ、石を積み上げた祭壇（アフ）の上に置かれていました。このモニュメントが、土地区画の境界線を示していたのです。

そして近年、オアフ島の幹線道路に掲示板が立てられるようになりました。

アラモアナ通りにもあるので、次回ハワイを訪れた時に探してみるのはいかがでしょうか？

Have you ever heard of the word Ahupua'a?

Hawaii's land division system called the larger islands of Kauai, Oahu, Maui, and Hawaii Island mokupuni, while parts of mokupuni and smaller islands were called moku. The islands are divided into valleys along the peaks into areas called Ahupua'a.

The ahupua`a of Hawai`i were established by the ali`i to　organize the distribution of resources and people. Anahupua`a traditionally ran from the mountains to the near-shore reef, and optimally included land and ocean resources that would sustain the population living in the ahupua`a. All of the residents in the ahupua`a had kuleana, responsibilities, to care for the resources and support the konohiki and the chief of the island. During the time of ke ali`i Mailekukahi – around the 15th-16th centuries – the ahupua`a system functioned most efficiently and the island populations thrived. It is estimated that the number of people living on O`ahu during that time rivaled the population of today.

Use of the pig’s head, often carved kukui wood, was mounted on an altar – or ahu – of stones. This monument marked the boundary line of the land section.And in recent years, symbols have been erected on major roads on Oahu.

There is one on Ala Moana Boulevard, so look for it next time you are in Hawaii.

なんでもできる、if you try!!

２０２２年も残り1ヶ月となり、世界もようやくほぼ元通りになりました。日本の入国規制も緩和されたことで、最近は日本人観光客の姿もだいぶみられるようになりました。（物価の高騰、円安などの影響でまだまだ以前のようにはいきませんが。。。）

このパンデミックが及ぼした一つは、オンラインでの新たな出会いや繋がりがごく普通になったこと。

私自身も本当に色々な形で繋がらせていただいた方がたくさんいます。

そのうちのお一人が今回ハワイにいらして、１年4ヶ月という時を隔て先日コラボすることができました。

誰一人例外はなく大変だった時間、その中で試行錯誤し、行動したこと。。。

そんな一つ一つが自然とつながって出来上がったフラです。

Lā kūʻokoʻa を祝っている。。。🌋

今日11月28日はハワイにとって、とても大切な日、Lā kūʻokoʻaです。

Lā kūʻokoʻaはハワイの主権と独立を記念して１８４３年に初めて祝われたハワイ王国の祭日。

時はKamehameha 3世の治世の間、ハワイ王国初の外交官Timoteo Ha'alilio はWilliam Richards と共にミッションを遂行、その努力によって🇺🇸、🇬🇧、🇫🇷がハワイの独立を公式に認めた年です。

Ha'alilio はハワイへの帰路で亡くなりますが、その使命を果たし、その後５０年にわたりハワイの独立が祝われることになったのです。

ハワイの転覆と合衆国への併合後、人々の意識から遠ざかっていたこの日。

まさに女神ペレが人々に知らしめるのかの如くMauna loaの噴火が起こったのです🌋

Today, November 28, is Lā kūʻokoʻa, a very important day for Hawaiʻi.

Lā kūʻokoʻa is a holiday of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi, first celebrated in 1843 to commemorate Hawaiian sovereignty and independence.

During the reign of King Kamehameha III, Timoteo Haʻalilio, the first diplomat of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi, along with William Richards, carried out the mission, and through their efforts, the United States, England, and France officially recognized Hawaiʻi's independence.

Ha'alilio would passed away on his way back to Hawaii, but he fulfilled his mission and Hawaii's independence would be celebrated for the next 50 years.

After Hawaii was overthrown and annexed by the United States, this day was far from people's consciousness.

The eruption of Mauna Loa was as if the goddess Pele had made the day known to the people.The mystery of Hawaii is still amazing!

For some reason it makes me hot in the pit of my stomach too❤️🔥It's not heartburn🤣

海でも、街でも、夏でも、冬でも。。。

 キルティングが終わっても最後の仕立てをせずに寝かしているものがいくつか。。。💦

本日のキルトはこちらのジンジャーのバッグです。

ビニールのバッグのインサートとして作ったので、雨の多い今のハワイでも気にせず持つことができます。

やっぱり完成品はとってもかわいい〜（自画自賛😅）

夏でも冬でもしっくりくるこの色合わせ、かなりお気に入りになりそうです！

After quilting, several items are laid down without final sewing: ......... 💦.

Today's quilt is this ginger pattern bag.

I made it as an insert bag for a plastic bag so that I can carry it around without worrying about the rainy season in Hawaii.

It's very cute (self-praise 😅).

This color combination will be my favorite because it goes well in both summer and winter!

ワイキキの外が明るくて、お部屋での撮影があまり綺麗にできず残念。

現物はもっと素敵です。はなまる〜👜

しばらく日本へご帰国されるので、その間に製作できるようポーチなどのキットを用意いたしました。

Today's quilt is this bag.

It was made in a chic brown color after she saw a sample piece.

It's too bad it was so bright outside in Waikiki that I couldn't get a better shot in the room

The actual product is much nicer. Hanamaru~👜

And since she will be back in Japan for a while, I prepared some kits for her to make pouches and other items during her stay.

186回目のお誕生日

 11月16日はカラーカウア王のお誕生日です。

イオラニ宮殿は王の１８６回目のお誕生日をお祝いするためにこのように飾られています。

正面の左側はみなさんよくご存知のハワイ王国 (ハワイ州)の旗 Ka Hae Hawaii、１８４５年カメハメは3世によって国旗と決められたもの。

右側の白い旗はカラーカウア王自身のロイヤルスタンダード

そして宮殿の上には２０１４年に復活したカラーカウア王の時代に使われていたロイヤルスタンダードがたなびいていました。

November 16th is King Kalakaua's birthday.

Iolani Palace is decorated like this to celebrate the King's 186th birthday.

On the left in the front is the well-known flag of the Kingdom of Hawaii (State of Hawaii), Ka Hae Hawaii, which was declared the national flag by King Kamehameha III in 1845.

The white flag on the right is King Kalakaua's own royal standard.

And on top of the palace fluttered the Royal Standard used during the reign of King Kalakaua, which was restored in 2014.

自然のパワーを感じながら

 今日のフラも屋外、ダイヤモンドヘッドを眺めながらのレッスンは本当に気持ちよかったです。ku'u pua Awapuhi が一通り終わったので、みなさんの確認のためビデオを撮りました。

今月から年末年始まで、日本に一時帰国される方が多く参加者はぐっと減るのですが、その分細かいお話もでき、みなさん「へえ〜、ほ〜、はあ〜」の連続😁

どんな形でもやはりレッスンは楽しく、実りあるものに！ですね。

今日は先週作ったブーゲンビリアのクウペエを身につけていきました。みなさんもらうことは多いけれど、作る機会は意外と少ないようなので、レイについても現物をお持ちして時々お話ししています。

お花を身に着けると気分も上がります❣️どんなに高い宝石にも負けない生花のパワーです。

Today's hula lesson was held outdoors with a view of Diamond Head, and it was really nice.

The number of haumana will be decreasing from this month until the New Year's holiday, but we were able to talk about the details  and everyone kept saying "Oh! I got it" 😁.

No matter what the lesson takes, it should be fun and fruitful! .

Today I put the bougainvillea kupee on that I made it last week. Everyone in Hawaii often receive lei, but they don't seem to have many opportunities to make them.

Wearing flowers makes us feel better❣️The power of fresh flowers is as strong as even the most expensive jewelry.

It is also a good opportunity for me to learn something new.

それでも時は過ぎていく

 いつも見ている景色

全く同じようで、実は同じではないんですよね。

刻々と時は移ろいでいます。

そんなことを教えてくれる この一本の木

もちろん日没の時刻も変わるけれど

お日様の位置が少しづつ動いているのが、この木でわかるのです。

同じ場所に立ち止まっていようと

前を向いて歩みを進めていようと

時はいつも　同じように　確実に過ぎていきます。

同じでいることの安心感

それでいいのかな

一歩踏み出してみたら

見える景色が急に変わる。。。。かもね。

Time is ticking away.

This one tree tells us.

Of course, the time of sunset changes.

This tree tells us that the sun is in a different place

Even if it stands still in the same place

Even though we are moving forward step by step

Time will always flow in the same sure way.

The security of being the same.

I wonder if that's enough

If you take a step forward

もう楽しすぎる〜〜🎄ソング

🎄クリスマスソングのワークショップ、どちらも前半を終えました。

とにかくこれは音楽のパワーだなと思うのですが、1回踊るたびに皆さん満面の笑み😃✨

とにかく楽しい〜〜〜〜💕っておっしゃいます。

わかります。だって本当に楽しいから😁💕💕

対面レッスンでも、みんなテンションがどんどんハイになって✨🌟終わる頃には上機嫌🤣

こんなふうに気持ちが盛り上がるってすごいことじゃないですか！

なので、フラの曲ではないけれど、たくさんの方に踊ってほしい〜〜！！！　

と奮起した今年のワークショップだったんです！

後半戦も皆さんと楽しみます❣️

Anyway, I think this is the power of music, everyone has a big smile 😃✨ after each single dance.

They say "it's fun 〜〜〜〜💕"

I understand. Because it's really fun 😁💕💕.

Even in the in-person lessons, everyone gets more and more excited ✨🌟and by the time it's over, they're in a great mood🤣.

Isn't it great to get excited like that?

So, even though it's not a hula song, I want lots of people to dance to it~!　

I will enjoy the second half of this workshop with all of them❣️.

ときには振り返ることも大切です！

 コロナ禍で始めたオンラインのプライベートレッスン。単発の方が多い中、もう丸２年間継続してくださってる方がいます。mahalo💕mahalo💕

先日一曲完結し、次何をやりましょう〜って話になったとき、今までの曲の中からもう一度復習をしましょうという結論に達しました。

う〜ん素晴らしい❣️👏👏

そこで今まで何曲か練習した Josh Tatofi さんシリーズで復習をしています。

Joshさんの曲は素敵だけれども、トラディショナルハワイアンと比べると踊るのが難しいかなといつも感じます。

以前、Kuana Tores Kaheleさんはフラで踊りやすいようにかなり意識して曲を書いたり、アレンジしていると聞いたことがあります。（そうすると日本のフラダンサーにもっとCDが売れるから？？？😅）

ステップとかハンドモーションとか、もちろん大切で基本ではありますが、音楽のリズムやその世界観も含めてどこまで体に落とし込めるか、というのも重要ポイントかなと思います。

実際体を動かして練習できない時は、その音楽をいっぱい聞いてくださいね。といつもお話ししているのは、そんな思いから💗です。

I started online private lessons under this pandemic. Many of them are one-shot lessons, but there is one who has been taking private lessons for 2 years now.

The other day we completed one song and when we talked about what to do next, we came to the conclusion that we should do another review from the songs we have done so far.

Well, that's great❣️👏👏.

So we are reviewing Josh Tatofi's series of songs that we have practiced several times.

Josh's songs are wonderful, but I always feel that they are more difficult to dance to than traditional Hawaiian songs.

I have heard that Kuana Tores Kahele writes and arranges his songs very consciously so that they are easy to dance in hula. (Because that would sell more CDs to Japanese hula dancers? 😅)

Steps and hand motions are of course important and basic, but I think the important point is how much you can put into your body, including the rhythm of the music and its world view.

When you can't actually move your body to practice, please listen to that music a lot. This is why I always say .

Let's have fun dancing the hula today!

数週間ほどいつもの練習場所が使用できないので

本当に気持ちよく、外でのレッスンも良いですね❣️

私たちが練習している間、日本人のカップルがすぐ近くにウェディングフォトを撮りにいらっしゃいました。

音楽もかけてたし写り込まない？ってちょっと心配になったら、大丈夫でーすって💕お声をかけていただきました。
するとお連れのおじさま、私たちのそばにいらして腰フリフリ。。。。🕺

ハワイは人をおおらかにするみたいです😊🌈

We couldn't use our usual practice place for a few weeks.

We are practicing at a park in Ala Moana.

I looked up at the sky while dancing 

the green of the leaves 

the sun shining and

the wind blowing through the trees

It was really pleasant and nice to take lessons outside❣️.

While we were practicing, a Japanese couple came nearby to take wedding photos.

I was a little worried that we might be in the photo and also our music bother them. 💕.

And the guy with them said no problem and came up to us and started swinging his hips 。。。。

Hawaii seems to make people generous 😊🌈

ハワイの地産地消にこだわったシェフの手の込んだお料理

久しぶりに繊細な味つけの一品一品を堪能させていただきました。

It's been 29 years since we got married 💒💕 in a church by the ocean with a view of Koko Head!

Tonight we celebrated 🥂 at natuRe waikiki, a French fusion restaurant in Waikiki.

Chef's elaborate cuisine with a focus on local production for local consumption in Hawaii.

It has been a while since I have enjoyed each and every delicately seasoned dish.

It is a bit of a luxury, and not a restaurant that I can go to often, but I am very happy to have been able to enjoy it.

As I have had a series of happy occasions recently, I hope you will forgive me.

I hope you will consider this restaurant as one of your future restaurants when you come to Waikiki.

ビショップ博物館のツアー再開のお知らせ

 Bishop Museumの日本語ドーセントツアーがいよいよ今日から再開いたしました！！

日本からのお客様もまだまだ数が多いとは決して言えませんが、それでも少しずつお見かけするようになりましたし、やっと館内のマスク着用も義務ではなくなりました。

Bishop Museumは展示物が多い上、館内の順路が決まっているわけではないので、どこから見たら良いか迷われる方が多いです。ツアーでお伝えできる事もほんの一部ではありますが、お越しいただいた際はぜひご利用ください。

As of today, the Bishop Museum has finally reopened for Japanese-language docent tours!

Although the number of visitors from Japan is still small, it is gradually increasing, and the wearing of masks in the museum is finally no longer mandatory.

The Bishop Museum has many exhibits and there is no set route around the museum, so many visitors seem to be at a loss as to where to start. The tour will introduce you to only a few of them, but we hope you will take advantage of them when you visit the museum.

Tours in English:

 一度ちゃんと作り方を教わって作ってみたいと思っていたLau niu papale 

急に機会が飛び込んで来た！しかもその時の予定が急に空いた！これは行くっきゃない！

Kauai島からいらした陽気なクムが教えてくださいました。

練習用に作ったイナズマ⚡️とお魚🐠

実は引きこもりがち、引っ込み思案、非社交的な私。。。😅

現実逃避の技がまた増えました。🤣

でも参加者ともお友達になりました💕

やっぱり違うところに足を踏み入れるって大事ですね。

I've always wanted to learn how to make lau niu papale. 

Suddenly the opportunity popped up! And my schedule at that time suddenly became free! I had to go!

A cheerful Kumu from Kauai Island, taught us how to make papale.

It was fun!

I have to make again with my coconuts leaf before I forget how to do that.

I'm actually a reclusive, withdrawn, unsociable person.... 😅

However,

I made friends with another participants.

It's important to step into a different place, isn't it?

 本日のキルトはお友達へのプレゼントとして作られた、こちらのパスポートケース。

内布にご用意した柄を上手に使ってポケットを配置され、中を開けるのが楽しみになるような作品となりました。

ハワイ柄のペンもセットして素敵なプレゼントになりますね❣️

Today's quilt is a passport case that Ms. S made as a gift for a friend.

She used the tropical pattern inner fabric well and made a pocket, so when you open the zip, a dolphin pops out.

She also set up a Hawaiian patterned pen to make it a great gift❣️.
