来月、２回目のリボンレイ講習会を行う事が決まりました！
母の日直前の講習なので、カーネーションのミニリースを作ります。

Second ribbon lei making workshop was decided.
Mother's day carnation mini wreath.





今年はアメリカで母の日が定められて１００年。
ハワイアンミュージックをBGMにお茶を飲みながら楽しく作りたいと思います。
５月９日（金）１０時より　＄２０（材料費込み）

Mother's Day is established in the United States and is the 100th year this year.

ANELAの庭２ ANELA's garden 2

先日植えたプルメリアの枝からしっかり葉っぱが出てきました！！
こんなに小さい時から特徴的なたくさんの葉脈が見る事が出来ます。キルティングの参考になるでしょうか？

Plumeria starts to come up!!  The tiny leaves have a lot of veins, it's plumeria leaf indeed.




なかなか芽が出てこなくて心配していたipuも種の帽子をかぶって出てきました。

Ipu's shoot came up with seed hat !



こちらは双葉と一生懸命種を押し上げて土から出てこようとしているもの。がんばれ〜

This is a cotyledon, and it push up soil to come out from seed.



木々の芽吹きを見ると生命の力を感じてパワーをもらえるような気がします。
いつもそんな花や樹木の息吹を感じるキルトをつくりたいと思っているのですが難しいです。私のALOHAはいつきちんと伝えられるようになるでしょう。。。頑張ります！

I feel power of life when I watch green shoots. I always think about how to make a quilt which feels breath......it's not easy but I will, because it's ALOHA indeed.

バッグとインナー bag & inner quilt

今日のお教室、Sさんのミニバッグ完成しました。
円形に仕立てたキルトの脇を折り込んでこんな可愛い形のバッグに仕上がりました。

Ms, S finished this bag. She folded round quilt and made this cute shape. Good job!



次の作品はミニフレーム。２パターンそれぞれ２カラーで４点。
キットの写真を撮り忘れました〜〜

Her next work is mini size quilt, two patterns two colors each.
I forgot to take a picture of kits.




こちらはKさんが愛用されている赤いバスケットのインナーになります。
またまたかわいらしい作品になりそうです。

Ms.K started to make this as an inner quilt for her red basket.
It seems to become a cute quilt.

誇りです。 proud

今日のお教室にKさんが仕上がった３点をお持ちくださいました。
色々試行錯誤して出来上がった作品はやっぱり愛着がわきますね。
「自慢の作品になりました。」とおっしゃっていたのがとてもうれしいです。

Ms. K brought these three quilts that she finished.
Everyone feels affection for their quilt that they made trial and error in various ways.
She said "I'm proud of these quilts ".......... it makes me happy!

These beautiful pillow case, two ladies of Ekahi class finished.



こちらもEkahi クラスのソーイングケースです。

This is a sewing case.




これはサンノゼクラスの作品です。上のクッションカバーと同じデザインですが、ボーダーをつけてウォールハンギングに仕立てました。皆さん、はなまる〜

This comes from San Jose class. The pattern is same as un upper pillow case but she put hem and finished it to wall hangings.

レフア Lehua

昨日ゴルフコースを歩いていた時に見つけたこの木

When I was walking on the golf douse, I found this tree.



実がなっていましたが、よく見たら少し赤い花が咲いていて、まるでレフアのようです。私が知識不足ですが、オヒアは高さ３０mの巨木になる事もあるらしいので同種の木かもしれません。

The tree has red flowers, it looks like Lehua. ....sorry about my lack of knowledge.
It may be a conspecific tree.



ハワイ島の花レフア、木の名前はオヒア。オヒアレフアの悲恋の伝説*も有名なのでご存知の方も多いでしょう。それ故か、ハワイアンキルトにデザインされる事が少ないような気もします。赤い花がよく知られていますが、黄色やオレンジ、ピンク、白の花もあり、ヒロにふる雨をカニレフアと言います。

Lehua is a flower of Big island. Legend * of the tragic love of OhiaLehua is famous.  Because the story is so sad, I think the pattern of Lehua is not too many. A red flower is well known, but there are yellow and an orange, pink, the white flower.  The rain which it rains in Hilo is called Kanilehua.




*オヒアレフアの伝説
火山の女神ペレが一目惚れをした青年オヒア。しかしオヒアにはレフアという恋人がおり拒絶されたペレが激怒してオヒアを木に変えてしまいました。帰らぬオヒアを想い、恋人のレフアが泣き続けまちは大雨になります。そこで、他の神がオヒアを人間に戻す事はできないのでレフアをオヒアの木に咲く花に姿を変えて一緒にしてあげました。今でもレフアを摘むと雨が降ると言われています。

The legend says that one day Pele met a handsome warrior named Ohia and she asked him to marry her. The problem was Ohia had already pledged his love to Lehua.  Pele was furious when Ohia turned down her marriage proposal, so she turned Ohia into a twisted tree.  Lehua was heartbroken, of course. The gods took pity on Lehua and decided it was an injustice to have Ohia and Lehua separated.  So, they turned Lehua into a flower on the Ohia tree so that the two lovers would be forever joined together.

キット new kit

来週のレッスンのための新しいキットを作りました。
一つはいつものビギナーズキット。ハワイアンプリントを使わないでと言われたのは初めてでした。(^ ^)

I prepared two kits for the lesson of next week.
One of these is a beginner's kit. She prefers a simple style and doesn't want to use Hawaiian print.



こちらはバッグのキットです。先日のブログでも少し触れましたが、やはりプルメリアは今は一番人気のパターンですね。完成が楽しみです。

This is a kit of the bag. Plumeria that I mentioned the other day is most popular pattern now.




先日、引き出しを手に入れたので、今日は布の整理もしました。
一年前の引っ越しで手持ちの布はすべて処分したのですが、この一年間でここまでになりました。なんか幸せ。

After that, I organized these fabric because I got antique drawer.
Though I donated all of my fabric when I moved to California one year ago, I got these for one year. I feel happy.

ダンプのパターン Articulated Dump Truck

先日クパティーノのE Kahiクラスから依頼のあったバッグのキット
一つはエンジェルトランペットのエレガントなもの

I got request of bag's kit in Cupertino E Kahi class. One is the pattern of Angel's trumpet.




そしてもう一つは、息子さんの好きなアーティキュレートダンプをモチーフに。というご依頼でした。

And the other is the pattern of Dump truck that her son likes.





パームツリーと組み合わせて、ココナッツを運ぶイメージでパターンを考えました。そして色は息子さんが愛用されているTシャツの色味でという事になり

I designed the dump truck with palm tree.  She chose the color like this T-shirt.






こんなキットが出来上がりました。
出来上がりが楽しみです。

This is the kit. I wish her son likes it.

ANELA の庭 from ANELA's garden

今我が家はバラの花がたくさん咲いています。ハワイ語でバラはLoke ロケといいマウイ島の島の花はLoke Lani 「天国のバラ」です。

Many roses bloomed in my garden. In Hawaiian, a rose is Loke, and the flower of Maui island is Loke Lani, it means "Rose of heaven".




これはパッションフラワー。ハワイ語ではLilikoi リリコイです。
果実のパッションフルーツはジュースやバターなどでおなじみです。果実がなったらリリコイバターを作ろうと思っています。

This is a passion flower.  In Hawaiian, Lilikoi. I plan to make a lilikoi butter, if it bears a lot of fruits.




先日フロリダに行ったとき友人のお庭からもらってきたプルメリを植えました。
プルメリアはハワイアンキルトのモチーフとしてもとても人気がありますが、１９世紀にハワイに持ち込まれたものです。レイや髪飾りとしてもとても一般的ではありますが、「墓地の木」と呼ばれていた時期もあるので人に差し上げるときは気をつけた方が良い場合もあるかもしれません。

I got some branches of plumeria(frangipani) from the garden of my friends when I visited Florida the other day. Plumeria was introduced to the Hawaiian Islands in the 19th century. But, originally they were used only in cemeteries. “graveyard tree”.  So for a while, people didn’t want to wear them, because they saw these flowers as a symbol of death. But today, plumeria is used for all kinds of things. They are commonly used to make leis which is often given  as a sign of welcome, or  congratulations.




フラに使うIpu, Ipu Heke (ひょうたん)も栽培してみようと種を取り寄せてこちらも植えてみました。しっかり育ててイプヘケを作りたいし、フラクラブでも自分のイプを作っていただきたいなと思っています。楽しみです！

 I got some seeds from Ipu farm, and sowed seeds today. I want to make my Ipu Heke.

我が家に飾ってあるキルト

This is a small quilt of my living room.




実は小さなサイドテーブルです。
ふらっと立ち寄ったドネーションセンターで $0.99で売られていました。
上にのせたガラスも同じドネーションセンターで買ったフレームを再利用。

Actually, this is a side table. I found it at donation center, the cost is only 99 cents! and I bought a frame for using as a glass top.



中のキルトはジュエリートレイの見本作品。サイズが合わなかったので、段ボールにファブリックを貼ってキルトの上におきました。100%リサイクルテーブルです。
ANELAの看板娘もご満悦です。

Inside quilt is a jewelry tray that I made as a sample before.  It didn't fit the table, I covered fabric over cardboard and put it on the quilt. It's 100% recycling table, but it's beautiful, isn't it? ANELA's dog likes it, too.

風合い mellow quilt

今日からまた新しいレッスンが始まりました。Elua クラスです。

New lesson started today. Cupertino Elua class.

キットのリクエストをいただくとき、淡い色を希望される方が多いような気がします。

控えめな日本人のDNAでしょうか？

私は使いませんが、むら染め布を好まれる方も多いような気がします。

確かにソリッドカラーをあわせるより、むら染め布の方が色なじみして落ち着いた感じになるかもしれませんね。

でも、へそ曲がりのManaさんは、むら染めはちょっと経過年数をズルしているような感じがして個人的に好きではありません。はっきりした色合いで作ったキルトを使い込んで色あせた風合いを、最初から手に入れているようなそんな感じがするからです。

I think Japanese students prefer the kit of subtle color. They also prefer spotty dyed fabric which I never use. The reason not to use the fabric is because I feel like kind of cheating. It seemed to obtain an old feeling from the beginning.

色落ちしたり、しみが付いたり、すり切れたりしてもずっと大切に使っていけるような

そんなキルトを皆さんにも作っていただきたいと思っています。

このラストシーン大好きです。

Loosing color, stains, and frazzle....It is proof used for many years.

やっぱりバッグ♡ pattern of bag

別のクラスの別の方がたから同じバッグのキットの依頼をいただきました。
何となく趣味がにていらっしゃるのか同じようなご希望ですが、お花はエンジェルトランペットとプルメリアです。さて、どのようなご要望がでてくるでしょうか？

I got two requests of the bag's kit. They are different person of different class but their requests were very similar......the first one is angel's trumpet and the second pattern is plumeria.
I can accept their requests more.
