退位の日 Queen Lili'uokalani

1８９３年１月１７日
ハワイ王朝最後の王妃、リリウオカラニ女王が退位を受け入れた日です。
これによって、１７９５年カメハメハ1世が建国を宣言してから約１００年の歴史に幕を閉じ、アメリカ５０番目の州となり現在に至ります。

It is the day when the last queen of the Hawaiian dynasty, Queen Lili'uokalani, accepted abdication.
It brought the curtain down on the history of approximately 100 years after the Kamehameha first declared the founding of a country in 1795 and it becomes a 50th state of the United States.



リリウオカラニ女王は名曲「Aloha Oe」の作者としても有名ですが
イオラニ宮殿に展示されているこのクレイジーキルト（約２５０cm四方）もまた
王位を退位した後、１０ヶ月間、幽閉中に製作した物として知られています。

Queen Lili'uokalani was know as a writer of "Aloha Oe"
The patchwork crazy quilt known as the Queen's Quilt is a 97-by-95-inch, nine-panel cover that documents Lili'uokalani's 10 months as a prisoner at Iolani Palace in 1895.



キルトのセンターには「宮殿に幽閉され、ここでキルトを始めた」と刺繍され,また歴代の王の名前も刺繍されています。
最後の王妃はキルトや音楽を通じ、消えてゆく王国の伝統や文化を残そうとしたのかもしれません。

The center square of Lili'uokalani's quilt was done embroidery words "Imprisoned at Iolani Palace ... We began the quilt here ..." She also stitched all of kings' names on it.
The last queen was going to leave the tradition and culture of the kingdom of Hawaii which went out, through a quilt and music.
